During the hike, the trail will allow you to enjoy a gallery forest with lush vegetation and giant trees. If you are into such trees, your professional guide will help point out trees like the Chilamate and Guácimo Colorado, constituting the habitat of many species. You can find opossums, two-toed sloths, three-toed sloths, and many birds such as Toucans, Tanagers, Royal Flycatchers, and others. The main attraction is the observation of sloths. Members of the Rodriguez Family will be your guides since trying to find sloths requires high skills because they usually have an excellent camouflage that makes them imperceptible to untrained eyes.
You’ll be searching out both 2-toed and 3-toed sloths. Although similar, they have distinct differences. The 2-toed Sloth, being nocturnal, can be found sleeping high up in the treetops. More active during daytime hours, the 3-toed Sloth slowly moves through the branches happily eating leaves, often with a young sloth hugging on for the ride.
