La Leona Waterfall Adventure Hike – Private Tour with Lunch
Explore off the beaten path on our La Leona Waterfall Adventure Hike with your own personal guide and transportation. The day consists of a moderate 2-hour hike alongside the celeste waters of Rio Blanco while you spot wildlife along the way. Once you get to La Leona waterfall, you can splash and swim in the cool blue waters. Finish the day with a a typical Costa Rican lunch!
THIS TOUR IS FOR HIKERS WITH NO CURRENT PHYSICAL INJURY OR HEALTH CONCERNS. THE TRAIL HAS MANY ROCKS AND ROOTS. THERE ARE SECTIONS OF THE TOUR THAT INVOLVE SWIMMING AND CROSSING THE RIVER. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS FOR PEOPLE WHO DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE IN THE WATER. LIFE JACKETS ARE PROVIDED.
La Leona Adventure Hike Tour Itinerary – Private Tour with Lunch
Hotel Pick up:
After pick up from your hotel, you will stop for coffee and/or breakfast, you will be driven (1-2 hours depending on pick up location) up to Curubande on Rincon de la Vieja Volcano.
La Leona Waterfall Adventure Hike
An intimate private tour of the most off the beaten path trail to La Leona Waterfall. The day consists of a moderate 2-hour hike alongside the blue waters of Rio Blanco located deep in the canyons of Rincon de la Vieja Volcano where you will spot wildlife with your local guide along the way.
You will be lead along the shaded path that goes upriver, stopping by 5 different pools and passing through a stone canyon, caves and small waterfalls until you reach the entrance of the canyon that leads to La Leona waterfall. Here you put your things in a drybag to jump into the water and swim a short distance to the waterfall. The waterfall has a stone beach in front of it where you can take photos. There is also a nice pool to splash around.
Costa Rican Lunch
You will then return to base to enjoy a plentiful Costa Rican style lunch. There are plenty of options for dietary restrictions such as vegetarians, gluten free, and vegan.

The above pick up times are an estimate. We will send you an official pick up time the day before your tour. Please be ready outside 10 minutes before your scheduled time.
Special Notes
- We operate this tour rain or shine! On rare occasions rain may cause us to cancel this tour
- In an effort to eliminate single-use plastic bottles, please bring a refillable water bottle.
- Not recommended for participants with heart complaints or other serious medical conditions.
- This tour is actually great for adventurous children, however we recommend that there is 1 adult per young child in order to assist them when crossing over boulders and rivers.
